Yul Gabriel Dionson as Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT) Pintahusay Champion.
Artist Yul Gabriel Dionson of Bais City National Science High School (BCNSHS) has finally been hailed champion at this year’s “pintahusay” competition at the Regional Festival of Talents (RFOT) in Toledo City, Cebu.
Last year, Yul came close to the coveted title despite another stunning painting, finishing in second place against a fellow Negrense from DepEd Negros Oriental.
Learning from last year’s experience, the grade 12 Baisanon painting protรฉgรฉ bested other artists, finally clinching the elusive title and the honor of representing the region at the nationals.
Yul displayed his exceptional skills in a plein air painting, inspired by the contest venue at The Ranch Resort.
“Our strategy for this year’s pintahusay was to stick with the guidelines, which is plein air, meaning artists must choose their spot and paint it,” said Coach Dave Sedigo.
Sedigo said Yul “took advantage of his strength” and allowed his imagination to run wild.
Under a canopy and the sweltering heat of the sun, Yul artistically captured an aged “dalakit” tree that caught his eye.
The dalakit tree was purposely preserved by the resort as a reminder of its natural beauty and as one of its main attractions for visitors.
“The tree was already here long before the resort was built,” Sedigo quoted Yul in Bisaya.
Yul’s dalakit masterpiece will remain with the DepEd Regional Office as a testament to his artistry, joining numerous other artworks he has made that have gained recognition locally and abroad.
Dr. Bernadette Susvilla, Schools Division Superintendent, expected a win from Yul, especially after receiving her portrait as proof of his dedication and commitment to this year’s competition.
Congratulations Yul!
