Learning Camp Volunteers (LCVs) for this year’s National Learning Camp attended a whole-day orientation on May 29, 2024, marking the second year of implementation.

Arnulfo Adana, Chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division, led the orientation alongside division NLC focal person Oliver Catacutan, Education Program Supervisor for Mathematics.

Adana acknowledged that last year’s NLC implementation faced challenges, including low camp enrollment, subject specialization mismatches, and underutilization of funds. However, this year, both the Central Office and the division are committed to addressing these concerns and implementing the program effectively.

As of writing, nearly 400 teachers have expressed their willingness to serve as LCVs for 15 days, starting from July 1 to 19.

Volunteers receive a daily food allowance of P250, totaling P3,750, along with an additional 15 days’ worth of service credit, in addition to their annual maximum credit of 15 days.

The management team has divided participants into four groups: English, Math, Science, and literacy/numeracy facilitators for grades 1 to 3. These groups engaged in breakout sessions to enhance collaborative experiences.

Catacutan emphasized the importance of collaborative expertise during the NLC sessions held every Monday and Friday. LCVs will prepare learning resources, brainstorm with peers for instructional delivery, and plan as a team for the entire week.

Dr. Nilita Ragay, OIC-ASDS, encouraged LCVs to be creative in their respective classes. “Classes should have a camp-like atmosphere. Let them go out and have class under the mango tree,” Ragay stated in her welcome message.

Dr. Bernadette Susvilla, OIC-SDS, urged LCVs and their respective school heads to make efforts to increase NLC enrollment before the end of May. This initiative aims to bridge the learning gap caused by the pandemic.

Adana assured that all learning resources, including lesson plans, teacher guides, and worksheets, will be provided to LCVs for their convenience, allowing them to focus on delivering creative and effective instructions to campers.

As directed by the Central Office, all public school teachers will enjoy an uninterrupted month-long break from June 1 to 30.

The NLC 2024 program is set to begin on July 1 and run until July 19.
