The Curriculum Implementation Division is preparing for the enhanced implementation of the National Learning Camp (NLC) in its second year.
Mr. Arnulfo Adana, the CID Chief, led the orientation on the specific guidelines for the effective implementation of the NLC 2024 on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at the divisionโs Student-Teacher Activity Center. He was joined by the division testing coordinator and the Education Program Supervisor for Mathematics, Mr. Oliver Catacutan.
Adana explained that the NLC is part of the National Learning Recovery Plan, a response to the pandemic. This yearโs NLC will run from July 1 to 19, 2024, which is a shorter duration compared to last yearโs nearly month-long camp.
Similar to last year, DepEd will seek NLC volunteers from its pool of teachers. However, due to a shortage of volunteers last year, the Central Office has decided to allow non-DepEd teaching personnel to serve as NLC facilitators.
NLC volunteer positions are offered to board-passed teachers from the registry of qualified applicants. This ensures that NLC volunteers can teach their specific majors in English, Math, and Science.
While DepEd NLC volunteers will receive a daily allowance of P250 for 15 days, non-DepEd NLC volunteers will be compensated based on the regional minimum wage.
A notable difference in this yearโs NLC implementation is the inclusion of grade 1 to 3, in addition to the original grade levels 7 to 11, as highlighted by Adana.
Adana hopes that through the NLC, DepEd can address the learning gaps faced by students due to the pandemic.
