School heads in their small group for the DTOT.

Baisanon public school heads participated in smaller breakout sessions starting Wednesday as part of the ongoing Division Training of Trainers (TOT) for the Matatag Curriculum. These sessions aimed to deepen their understanding of the curriculum and enhance their expertise.

Maria Vaness Teves, Senior Education Program Specialist for Human Resource Development, explained that the 58 participants were divided based on their subject specialization and grade level. During the two-day sessions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the Matatag Curriculum within the context of their assigned subject areas.

Dr. Bernadette Susvilla, Schools Division Superintendent, congratulated the participants for their dedication in embracing the new curriculum.

Mr. Oliver Catacutan, EPSvr-Math, described the โ€œsmaller breakout sessionsโ€ as highly effective in fostering a collaborative environment and eliciting valuable insights from participating school heads. Facilitators worked closely with small groups, providing direct technical assistance and clarifying any unclear concepts or ideas.

Initially, school heads had to double their time in understanding the new curriculum. However, with exceptional guidance from regional-trained facilitators, they grasped key processes such as unpacking, clustering, and crafting learning objectives.

Despite years of no longer in class, facilitators effectively guided school administrators through the intricacies of the Matatag Curriculum.

School heads also noticed a reduction in the number of required competencies per quarter and observed the expected outputs from studentsโ€”a hallmark of the Matatag curriculum, which has significantly streamlined competencies.

Hereโ€™s how they were organized:

The largest group remained in the plenary hall, focusing on Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) 4 & 7. This session was led by Maria Ligaya Panganiban, EPSVr-ESP, for GMRC 4 & 7; Mr. Catacutan for Math 4; Dr. Elisa Sevilla for English 4 and 7; and MTs Epifania Romano and Josette Catacutan for Science 4 & 7.

Other groups convened in two smaller rooms:

Filipino 4 & 7 was led by Nimfa Puno, EPSvr-Filipino.

Araling Panlipunan (AP) 4 and 7 were led by Emmanuel Garcia, SGOD Chief, and Dr. Cristy Jabonillo, division AP Coordinator.

MAPEH 4 & 7 was led by Arturo Adriatico Jr., EPSvr-MAPEH.

The breakout session facilitators were participants of the regional TOT held in Cebu City earlier this year. They included division chiefs, learning area supervisors, master teachers, and select teacher IIIs.

The division initially planned to conduct school/cluster-based training for teachers in July this year. #DasigBais#DepedBais#DepEdMATATAG
